March 30th update: DURING THE SCHOOL SHUT-DOWN, ALL WORK WILL BE POSTED TO GOOGLE CLASSROOM. PLEASE CHECK THERE DAILY.
Welcome to the Travis Ranch STEAM Lab. I am Mrs. Chapluk and you can find my main teacher website by clicking here: http://mrs.chapluk.com.
This is a semester-long elective for students in grades 6-8. Over the course of the semester, students will work in pairs to complete four different Expeditions, which are a project-based, student-directed STEM program provided by the company Pitsco. Curriculum is delivered in a cloud-based multimedia environment and is accompanied by corresponding hands-on projects and student collaboration. Students track their work in logbooks and are assessed throughout each expedition with rubric checkpoints and an open-note post-test at the end.
STEM Expeditions are a whole new way to develop future-ready learners. Using an iterative project-based approach rooted in the engineering design process, STEM Expeditions enable students to own their learning, to practice collaboration and creative problem-solving, to test ideas, and to develop a growth-oriented and resilient mind-set that will serve them well for a lifetime – no matter their college or career path.
Please check out my current grant requests that are needed to support this class.
